Catholic priests kidnapped by terrorists
In Kaduna State’s Lere Local Government Area, two Catholic priests—Rev. Fr. John Mark Cheitnum and Rev. Fr. Donatus Cleopas—have been abducted.
In a statement on Saturday, the Catholic Diocese of Kafancha’s chancellor, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo, claimed that the priests had been abducted by terrorists on Friday.
It is with great sorrow that we must inform you of the kidnapping of two of our priests, Rev. Frs. John Mark Cheitnum and Donatus Cleopas, the chancellor said.
“The terrible occurrence of their abduction happened at approximately 5:45 p.m. on July 15, 2022, when the two priests were on route to a gathering in a different parish in Kaduna State’s Lere Local Government Area.
We ask for fervent prayers for their immediate and safe release, and we also want to appeal to everyone to desist from enforcing the law.
To make sure they are released quickly and safely, we will employ all legal means.
He prayed, “May the Cross-borne Jesus hear our prayers and hasten the unconditional release of His Priests and all other kidnapped victims.”
