Inter Milan agree loan deal for Chelsea Lukaku
Inter Milan has agreed to take Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan.
The 29-year-old was signed from Inter for £97.5 million in August 2021, but he will return to the Serie A side after a disappointing season with the Blues.
Lukaku’s loan fee is estimated to be about 8 million euros (£6.9 million).
Last season, the Belgium international scored 15 goals for Chelsea in all competitions, including eight in 26 Premier League games.
Lukaku is said to have been willing to take a wage cut to return to Inter, who won the Serie A title in 2020-21 with him at the helm.
The Italian club’s financial position prevented them from matching Lukaku’s pay or purchasing him altogether.
On Monday, however, President Steven Zhang became personally involved in the negotiations, which was seen as crucial.
Lukaku, who joined Everton for £28 million in 2014, returned to Chelsea last summer on a five-year contract for a club-record amount.
He did, however, apologize for a recent interview in which he stated that he was unhappy with his job under Blues manager Thomas Tuchel and that he wished to return to the Italian club in the near future.
Lukaku only scored three goals in his final 15 Premier League appearances as Chelsea’s season came to an end.

Tuchel’s team finished third in the Premier League, while they lost on penalties in both the FA Cup and League Cup finals against Liverpool.
Last season, Inter came in second in Serie A, two points behind city rivals AC Milan. They’re also in discussions with Juventus’ Paulo Dybala.
When his contract ends at the end of the month, the Argentina international, 28, will be a free agent.
